Co-stars in life, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have also now become co-stars in film for the first time since Mr & Mrs Smith.
By the Sea is based on the strained marriage of dancer Vanessa, and her writer husband Roland, as they travel France together in the mid-70s.
In a new interview with V Magazine, Brad said: "It's surprising how much I enjoy the direction of my wife. She's decisive, incredibly intuitive, and might I say, sexy at her post. I trust her with my life."
Speaking about the film (that was shot after the pair's wedding in August last year), Brad said: "It was probably not the wisest way to spend a honeymoon,
"But then again, fighting to make something together... what better metaphor for marriage?" he added.
