Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are officially engaged.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are officially engaged.

"Yes, it's confirmed," Cynthia Pett-Dante, Pitt's manager, told USA Today in a statement. "It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time."

In support of Pitt's manager, Lindsay Kurtz, a rep for the couple, told CNN: "Yes, it's confirmed. It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time. Brad designed the ring."

The couple revealed their plans to tie the knot after Jolie's long-term jeweller Robert Procop released a statement claiming he had designed her engagement ring in collaboration with Pitt - and showed it off at a private view for the new Chinese Art Collection at the LA County Museum, too.

The statement from the jeweller read: "Following the first sighting of Angelina Jolie's engagement ring at the private view of the new Chinese Art collection at the LA County Museum on 12 April 2012, Robert Procop confirmed that the ring was created by him, in collaboration with Brad Pitt, for Angelina Jolie.

"Working closely with Brad Pitt to realise the star's vision for the ring, Robert Procop was able to source a diamond of the finest quality which was then transformed using Pitt's unique designs, cut with distinctive faceting to a shape and size that perfectly suits Angelina's long, slender fingers.

"Throughout, Brad Pitt remained heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design process from the perfect cut of the diamond centerpiece - an elongated tablet shape - to the finishing touches such as the mounting of a galaxy of smaller stones which are graduated in size and faceted to match, adding a crowning lustre to the ring. The full creative journey - from conception to completion - took a year, with Brad Pitt waiting until the perfect moment to unveil this special jewel to Angelina Jolie.

"Robert Procop has been the private jeweller to Angelina Jolie for over a decade and at the end of 2010, the pair unveiled the 'Style of Jolie' - a collaborative jewellery collection, the proceeds from which benefit children in need around the world via Angelina Jolie's charitable foundation the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict."

Angelina Jolie, 36, and Brad Pitt, 48, have been together since 2005, and have a brood of six children together, three of which are their biological children, and three of which are adopted.

The pair have said in the past that they wouldn't tie the knot unless gay marriage was legalised in the USA, but the Oscar-nominated actor seemed to have changed his stance earlier this year, telling reporters that he found it "ludicrous" not to make the commitment to Jolie.

"We'd actually like to [get married] and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren't going to do it till everyone can. But I don't think we'll be able to hold out,"  Brad said at the time.

"It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment. I'm not going to go any further. But to be in love with someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that commitment and not be able to is ludicrous, just ludicrous."

The actor also revealed that the pair hadn't ruled out adopting more children.

"We haven't closed the book on it. There's a really nice balance in the house right now, but if we see the need and get that lightning bolt that says, 'We can help this person; we could do something here,' then absolutely," he said.
